description | The course is organised into two modules: - TALC-TLN, more technical, deals with models and automatic processing tools for natural languages; - TALC-COG is an introduction to cognitive models for language capacity and their scientific implications. |
Allowing machines to analyse human language presents a fascinating challenge; the many applications (knowledge mining, intelligent search engines, automatic translation, human-computer interaction, ...) have not yet all been foreseen. In this unit, natural language processing will be explored in all its dimensions, from lexical forms to syntax, meaning and argumentation. Students will have the opportunity to manipulate concrete operational techniques together with more advanced methods. In parallel, we will study the analyses that an engineer may make of cognitive processing, in order to evaluate the gap that remains to be bridged in order to allow machines to fully reproduce human language competencies. | |
